Credits: what they are, what things cost, and what happens when you run out
Credits are what you spend on AI generation — a page, a post, or a whole course. They are separate from everything else you pay for. Your Pro subscription is $19.95/mo per account, an additional connected site adds $10/mo, and neither of those is a credit. Credits are their own meter, and they are the thing that actually stops a generation from running.
What things cost
| What you generate | Credits |
|---|---|
| A page or a post | 50 |
| A course | 200 |
A course is one charge regardless of how many lessons it has. A twelve-lesson course with quizzes costs the same 200 credits as a three-lesson one. This is probably the most surprising thing about credit pricing, and it is deliberate — you are paying for the course, not per piece of it. Generating a single lesson on its own, outside a course, is an ordinary 50-credit generation.
Credits are spent on generation and nothing else. Asking the advisor questions does not draw on them. Your plan sets how many questions you get, and that limit is counted separately — see Free vs. Pro. Generation through chat or the dashboard requires Pro. (Your own site’s initial build is the one exception — that generation runs during provisioning, before you’re asked to upgrade.)
Where your credits come from
There are two pools, and they behave differently.
Your monthly allotment is included with your plan and resets at the start of every calendar month. It does not roll over — whatever you have not spent when the month turns is gone. Credits in the app shows your current allowance and what is left of it; that page is the number to trust, because the allowance attached to each plan is still being set.
Bonus and purchased credits never expire. New accounts start with a one-time grant, and anything you buy as a top-up lands in the same pool. Nothing here resets month to month, and the same Credits page shows what you hold.
Pro accounts can top up at any time. The packages on offer, how many credits each carries and what each costs can change, so the Credits page is the only place that shows the current prices.
Top-ups are priced above the per-credit rate your subscription gives you, so a top-up is a convenience when you need more this month — never a cheaper route than the plan itself. Buying credits requires Pro; on Free your balance is whatever your allotment and your one-time grant come to, and nothing can add to it.
The order things are spent in
Your monthly allotment is always spent first, and your non-expiring credits only after it runs out. This is on purpose, and it is the answer to the question people ask most often about credits.
If it worked the other way round, an unspent monthly allowance would quietly expire at the reset while your own purchased credits went down instead. Spending the expiring pool first means the credits you paid for stay where they are for as long as possible.
One generation can span both pools. If you have 10 credits left on the month and generate a 50-credit page, 10 come off the allotment and the remaining 40 come out of your non-expiring pool, in one go.
When you run out
A generation that would cost more than your combined balance is refused before it starts, with “Not enough credits for this generation”. Nothing is half-made and nothing is charged.
Two ways forward: wait for the monthly reset at the start of the next calendar month, or buy a top-up, which is available immediately.
Checking your balance
Credits in the app is the authoritative view, and it is worth reading rather than guessing:
- This month — your allotment and what is left of it, the pool that resets.
- Bonus & purchased credits — the pool that never expires.
- Credit balance — the two added together, which is what a generation is actually checked against.
- History — every generation and what it cost.
If a figure on that page reads as unknown rather than as a number, that means the balance could not be read at that moment, not that it is zero. Reload before concluding anything.
FAQ
Do unused credits roll over?
Your monthly allotment doesn't — it resets at the start of each calendar month, and anything unspent from that month is gone. Bonus and purchased credits are different: they never expire and sit there until you spend them.
Why did my credits disappear?
Almost always the monthly reset. Spending draws from your monthly allotment first and only touches your non-expiring credits once the month's allowance is used up, so if you didn't spend much last month, the leftover simply expired at the reset. Your bonus and purchased credits are untouched — the Credits page shows the two pools separately.
Does asking the advisor a question cost credits?
No. Credits pay for generation only — pages, posts and courses. How many questions you can ask is set by your plan, and it's counted separately.
A course has twelve lessons. Is that twelve charges?
No. A course is one charge of 200 credits no matter how many lessons and quizzes it contains.
